Recently at Logos4Polos we embroidered some polos for a company called Save the Moment (and didn’t we do a great job!). When speaking to the main man Dean, we realised that actually he had a very interesting business indeed! So we decided to interview him, for your reading pleasure!
So Dean, tell us about yourself! Hi, my name is Dean Glover and I live in Bournemouth, Dorset with my wife and two young sons.
What is Save The Moment? Save The Moment is the name of the small business I launched recently after being made redundant from my previous job of 14 years. I specialise in 3D life casting which is the art of taking an impression of the human form which is then used to reproduce a highly detailed and personal sculpture. My products include baby hand & foot casts, pregnancy casts and body & face casts. I also provide laser engraved crystal glass hand & foot prints.
How did you come up with such a unique idea?! Life casting is actually an ancient art form that dates back at least as far as Cleopatra’s Egypt. Its big in the US but not as well known here in the UK. As soon as I learned of my redundancy I knew I wanted to try something different. I’ve always had a creative side and with the country plunging into the credit crunch, I knew there would be fewer jobs in the marketplace with more applicants. I had seen examples of baby hand and foot casts some years previously and was really intrigued by the whole concept. I bought some materials and after giving it a go, I was hooked. After months of research and practice it progressed from a hobby to a business and Save The Moment was born.
What kind of people use your company? Mostly parents of babies and young children. The most popular type of casting by far is of babies hands and feet. Parents love to have a keepsake that lets them remember exactly how tiny their children’s hands and feet were at a particular age.
What is the most rewarding thing about doing what you do? Helping families preserve precious memories. It is always great to see the parents reactions when I deliver the finished products. Even though they know what they will be getting, they are still overjoyed when they see their own children’s hands and feet captured in the casts or crystal.
What are your plans for the future? I currently have a small work space at home but plan to move into a proper workshop or studio in the future. I would like to be able to offer courses in life casting to teach others and would certainly need the extra space.
Do you have any new products in the pipeline? Not new products as such, but there are many other forms I have not yet had the opportunity to cast. The next one on my ‘to do’ list is a cast of a face. Other casts I would like to do include a full head cast, a full body cast and a dogs paw!
Thank you very much for talking to us Dean! No Problem!
